03 Jan Swing Trading Review of 2014 & Website Refresh for 2015
First of all, Happy New Year to all who have followed the blog and particularly to everybody who keeps in touch with emails and suggestions about the site.
As you know, 2014 was a quiet year on this blog not just because of commitments outside of trading and a stint abroad with no internet connectivity, but also because finding trade set-ups I felt confident about was a real struggle. Whilst I should apply my system to every trade, it just wasn’t giving any signals on the charts I followed and traditional T.A became the favoured method, albeit sometimes unreliably.
So whilst the number of trades taken was minimal (just 5 trades), a profit was still demonstrated over the year, albeit a minuscule one as shown in the end of year results:
When compared to the other trades, that GBP:NZD loss of 310 points had a significant impact on the overall profits but this was down to my error in that it very quickly showed a profit in excess of 300 points and despite my intention of adjusting the stop loss to break-even, I didn’t get round to it in time.
I also have numerous regrets from 2014 in the number of trades I chose not to take or talk about that would have delivered significant profits, too many of those to list, but here’s a perfect example of what I mean; EUR:USD having retraced 23.6% of its decline right into resistance and the pink 50 MA, but it just looked too far away from the Daily 200 MA and MACD didn’t seem overbought enough for me to commit to the trade, which would now be in excess of 800 pips profit:
Meanwhile there are also trades I watched for Months that still haven’t materialised into decent opportunities such as the GBP:AUD swing long set-up from this post. Similarly many set-ups I followed just flat lined for Months whilst those I took little notice of had wild swings!
Still, for the 3rd consecutive year an overall profit was realised and that can’t be bad, and as always, every trade was posted live in advance of entry either on my ADVFN forum, on twitter, or on the blog.
I hope your trading was rewarding throughout 2014 and 2015 is even better
Of course I hope 2015 yields more opportunities and more profits, with a new-look blog to suit! Whilst the old blog was perfectly functional it was visually starting to look dated and the coding behind it was well out of date and it required regular updates and tinkering just to get pages to display correctly across all browsers, particularly on mobile devices. This new look runs the latest coding and offers much more functionality, such as the ability to run a forum or a private area etc, not that its particularly necessary for a basic blog, but I hope you like it nonetheless.
In the meantime I hope your trading was rewarding throughout 2014 and I hope 2015 can be even better.
Happy New Year!
